Adai is usually prepared for breakfast but if served for dinner, it tastes good. You can add any lentils and it is healthy, and has high nutritional value. It is very easy to prepare and you can just enjoy with a blob of butter.
Ingredients:
- Rice - 1 cup
- Toor dal - 1 cup
- Channa dal - 1 cup
- Urad dal - handful
- Red chillies - 2 to 4
- asafoetida - 1/2 tbsp
- Chopped onion- 1/4 cup
- Ginger (Finely chopped) - 1 tbsp
- Coconut (cut in small pieces) - 2 tbsp
- Spinach or Drumstick leaves - Handful (Optional)
- Salt to taste
Preparation:
Soak rice and dal together for 4- 5 hours. Usually I’ll do this process in the afternoon, for the dinner.
Grind it coarsely along with red chillies,asafoetida and salt. The batter should not be thick nor watery.
Transfer the ground mixture into a big bowl and add the chopped onions, coconut pieces, spinach or drumstick leaves, ginger. If the batter is too thick, you can little water.
Heat the griddle and grease it with oil evenly. Take a ladle of mixture and spread it as like Dosa. Flip to the other side and let it cook evenly.
Serve this yummy delicious, spicy Adai with Butter, Avial or any chutney.
